A poem about nostalgia which, for me, is a death poem. During the long siege of cancer, when I was confronting issues of life and death, I had, one day, an enormous longing for the earlier, simpler life of my childhood. For the world of kites.
Nostalgia is an emotion to which I am, in large measure, a stranger, but the moment of emotion captured by this poem really got to me. KITES nostalgia poem death poem in Genghis Lotus Poetry Collection, a selection of poems free to read online. The Genghis Lotus poems are hosted at two locations, genghislotus.com and zenvirus.com/genghis-lotus/. Webmaster for both sites is poet Hugh Cook, born in Britain, educated in New Zealand, and the author of, amongst other works, the fantasy series Chronicles of an Age of Darkness. |

It was not this world. Cotton reels were made of wood And clocks Deconstructed into clockwork. A different world. And I, Remembering the kites In the schoolyard When I was very young, I am suddenly Terribly sad. |
